Residents of the Broadlands Lodge Care Home were delighted to host their very own version of Wimbledon on the 12th of July 2023 - a day full of tasty treats, and a host of activities. Residents Judith Rafferty, Peter Reeve, Marie Bales, Con Owen, along with the other wonderful residents had a packed day filled with surprises were thrilled for the occasion.
Although the day was far from typical Wimbledon weather, everyone made the most of the day. Resident, Marie handpicked strawberries from the local supermarket earlier that morning and with the support of the care team, they made and served up an abundance of traditional snacks for the residents to enjoy. Afternoon tea from the care home’s tea shop was served, this time with Pimm’s - the perfect addition to an afternoon of Wimbledon, fresh strawberries, and cream, and even a tennis match, the residents’ expectations were exceeded.
But the highlight of the day came as the residents watched Wimbledon live on the big screen in the care home’s dining room. Even though the clouds threatened to rain on the parade, this didn’t stop the residents from having an amazing day.
“The day was perfect,” said resident Judith. “The food was delicious, we had such a great time with the swing ball in the garden, and then for the day to end with a live screening of Wimbledon was just the icing on the cake; we are looking forward to Wimbledon 2024 at Broadlands Lodge.”
The day was coordinated by Broadlands Lodge’s Care Home Manager, Tamara Crosswell, who organised the day’s festivities and made sure that everyone had an enjoyable time. “We’re so glad that we were able to provide our residents with this unique experience,” said Tamara. “We wanted to make sure that they were able to get the most out of the day, and they did. Seeing them smile was enough reward for us.”
The Wimbledon Day celebration was truly a memorable experience for the residents. It was an incredible day filled with wonderful surprises, scrumptious food, and a variety of entertainment, leaving them with treasured memories for many years to come.
