Mathew Lainton, the Night Team leader, at Sid Bailey Care Home, returned home from his honeymoon recently to a wonderful surprise. He had formed a special bond with one of the residents, Beryl, of Sid Bailey and she had come up with a plan to celebrate his wedding.
The Care Team set about preparing Beryl for the special day, helping her with a hair and nail makeover in Sid Baileys salon. Beryl had already selected her outfit and found a beautiful pair of earrings to finish her look, with a hat chosen from amongst those that had been kindly offered up by a staff member.
The special day finally arrived, and without further ado Beryl and the other residents set off for the festivities. She felt absolutely beautiful and was so excited to be a part of the day. What was even more special for her was that Mathew was there to greet her upon his return to work.
Beryl was more than delighted at the celebration and as Mathew approached, she waved her hands happily and presented him with a bouquet of flowers concealing his surprised expression. With a warm hug they embraced and shared some words of joy and happiness.
Mathew was thoroughly floored by Beryl's warm surprise. She had been first in line to celebrate the news of his wedding and fittingly, was last to bid farewell for his honeymoon.
The precious moment was enhanced by party poppers simulating the effect of confetti passing over Matthew, which was shared with Beryl. Everyone present was overjoyed to be taking part in this special occasion. "I have been ready all this time and you never came for me to go to the wedding and now my flower is drooping," Beryl remarked adorably to Mathew.
To which Mathew replied warmly, "I am always here for you Beryl."
Sue Ravenhall, Manager at Sid Bailey Care Home, has been delighted to witness the bond that has developed between Beryl and the staff since she has been living there. She commented “It warms my heart to see our team members and residents celebrating together, we are one big family here at Sid Bailey.”
