Trip to Towneley Park is a Magical Experience for Residents at Rossendale House
On the 19th of July 2023, Hollie Marland embarked on a unique day trip to Towneley Park in Burnley, with a group of residents from Rossendale House Care Home. There, the residents were able to explore elegant Towneley Hall, the historic manor house, and its 445-acre parkland.
Brian Mernagh, Maureen Bellamy, and Brenda Hunt were mesmerized by the ancient architecture of the manor house. They all agreed that Towneley Hall was a beautiful building, and Maureen was even “flabbergasted” by it. Walking around the grounds, they admired the gorgeous views and appreciated the rich history behind the Hall.
While exploring the museum displays, they were guided through each section - from natural history to Egyptology and regional furniture - with much enthusiasm and admiration. Secretly, the tour guide could overhear Maureen, Brian and Brenda sharing memories of the places they have been to in the past. Brenda even commented that her husband would have loved the grandiose surroundings.
The day trip was such a success, that the Rossendale House Care Home residents stayed until closing time. Hollie, the trip organiser, and manager of the care home was overwhelmed and proud that the residents had such an enjoyable day.
This experience left a lasting impression on the seniors and Hollie - so much so, that they plan to organise more. The care home will begin to plan and visit more country parks and manor houses, so that their residents can experience the beauty and history these places have to offer.
It’s days like these which illustrate the importance of adventure and exploration for both the elderly and young generations; it’s vital to seize life’s opportunities and make every moment count. Brian, Maureen, and Brenda certainly took this to heart when they visited Towneley Hall and Park, making lasting memories and channelling their inner adventurer.
