When Beryl Kershaw moved into the Sid Bailey Care Home, she was accompanied by an unexpected housewarming surprise - a family of gnomes who were welcomed with great delight by other residents! Much loved by Beryl and the other residents, the Care Home was transformed into a magical place with the addition of the gnomes.
Over the weeks, more and more gnomes have appeared at Sid Bailey. An area within the garden has been transformed into a whimsical Gnomeland, filled with figurines and welcoming stretches of greenery. The new guests have stirred up a lot of excitement among the residents.
The residents have taken it upon themselves to provide a much-deserved makeover for the gnomes. They have fashioned these figurines with brightly coloured paint. The garden now looks more beautiful than ever before, with the vibrant colours of the gnomes standing out against the tranquil environment.
The team at Sid Bailey Care Home have recognized the positive impact that the gnomes have had on their residents. Several clinicians have praised the gnomes for bringing joy to the residents and fostering a sense of connection and contentment as they provide a great deal of happiness and unity. It has also acted as a wonderful form of entertainment for them, allowing them to express their creative sides through arts and crafts.
Sid Bailey Care Home remains a home for all and is now no longer just a place for human residents, but also a place for the gnomes who have extended their stay. It is a place of respite and true companionship, and without a doubt, a home is not a home without a gnome!
At Sid Bailey Care Home, we believe that a home isn't really a home without a gnome! Our residents have embraced the presence of these little characters and we have been witnessing the realisation of special 'Sid Bailey Gnomeland', a special area full of colour and creativity that our residents built for the gnomes to enjoy. And it all started with Beryl Kershaw, who brought her very own family of gnomes to stay with her here. Every day we see more and more gnomes appear in our home and they bring a unique sense of warmth and humour that we all value and appreciate. Here at Sid Bailey, we are proud to be a home to our own family of gnomes and are thankful to Beryl Kershaw for making it all possible!" - Andrea Cavanagh, Front of House Manager for Sid Bailey Care Home
