Rossendale House Hosts Engaging Workshops for Dementia Awareness Week
In honour of Dementia Awareness Week, Rossendale House invited local healthcare professionals to conduct stimulating, engaging, and informative workshops. On Tuesday, the home welcomed Rhian, a NHS physiotherapist, who showcased a variety of adaptable and flexible exercises designed to promote movement and strengthen the body.
Rhian began the morning with gentle stretches, easing the residents into a mid-morning workout accompanied by their favorite music from the 50s. She then introduced a dice game, where each number corresponded to a different exercise, helping with strength, balance, gross and fine motor skills, grip, and overall body strengthening.
The residents rolled the dice, performed each exercise, and then went around the circle again, adding a challenge by continuing the previous exercise until a new one was chosen. This engaging activity encouraged friendly competition and participation.
Following the dice game, residents enjoyed more upbeat movements and a bit of dancing. They then wound down with a game of balloon volleyball, which was a hit among the participants.
The workshop was well-received, with many residents asking when Rhian would return. The session provided practical examples of easy exercises that residents can do anytime, anywhere. The workshop concluded with a vote led by the residents, unanimously requesting Rhian to come back soon.
Overall, the event was a resounding success, promoting physical activity and joy among the residents of Rossendale House.
