Remembrance Sunday is an incredibly important day to provide us with the opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all those who contributed to protecting our freedom and way of life.
For our residents at Broadlands Lodge this day is paramount for they have first hand experiences of living in a country at war. It was especially important for our residents to spend the day reminiscing, remembering loved ones, swapping stories, and paying tribute.
The most recognisable symbol for Remembrance Sunday would be the red poppy, the association starting with WW1 memorials when flowers bloomed in the former battlefields.
Poppies could be seen around the home over the week leading up to Remembrance Sunday, with team members contributing to knitting and residents contributing to painting and decorating.
At 11am our team and residents held a 2-minute silence to pay tribute to the commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts. This was followed by a day of watching the ceremonial gatherings that took place on tv, painting, puzzles, music, food, drink, and laughter.
