"Primrose House Nurtures Social Interaction and Community Connections"
Residents at Primrose House Care Home in Brough, East Riding, threw normal conventions to the wind, when they created their own billboard to give romantic advice.
The boards were written on by the home’s residents, featured advice from residents Norma Todd, Janet Bilby, William Wright, Mary Glanville, Barrie Cutts, and Ivy Holtby. Each gave their views on what they found desirable in a partner, as well as elements they found emotionally important.
Marlene, one of the home’s residents, had a particularly humorous contribution. She said: “As long as they have two legs.”
It was not only the billboard that managed to raise a positive atmosphere in the care home. Staff arranged an exciting Gentlemen's Dominos Tournament for the male residents of the home, headlined by Barrie Cutts and Lawrence Tomlinson, and William Wright.
The residents, staff and locals could not be happier for the residents of Primrose House Care Home and the way in which they embraced aspects of social interaction.
"At Primrose House Care Home, we strive to create an atmosphere of wellbeing and positive social interaction for all of our residents. Our commitment to supportive, personalized care helps ensure that residents continue to feel connected to their community and be actively involved in meaningful activities." - Braidon, Unit Manager, Primrose House Care Home.
Creating the billboard and competing in the Domino's Tournament showed just how the home was rethinking the way they saw elderly life, and it is likely that this type of initiative will be seen down the line in other homes across the country in time to come.
"It’s a testament to the residents’ determination to engage with and help one another that they came up with such wonderful ideas to promote social inclusion and interaction," said Andi Barker, Care Home Manager of Primrose House Care Home, – as Barrie Cutts said after the gentlemen’s dominos tournament, ‘I’m enjoying this, it’s a nice change.”
