Heatherton House Care Home is making dreams come true for one of its residents, Jean. As part of her Life Story work, she has been reminiscing about her long-time friend Ann, with whom she has been friends since they were 11 years old and met at Park Field Grammer school for Girls in England.
Throughout their lifetime, Jean and Ann have gone on countless holidays around the world including a trip to South Africa to stay with another old school friend.
Unfortunately, due to circumstances, Ann is unable to visit Jean, leaving Jean feeling the strain of missing Ann dearly. In a bid to show how much they care for their residents, staff at Heatherton House arranged for a call between Jean and her friend, which brought Jean immense joy.
Jean was thrilled to hear about all the different things Ann was up to, and expressed how much she would love to see her again. That's when a spark of an idea formed in the staff's minds.
Since it's Ann's birthday coming up soon, the team at Heatherton House proposed that they arrange for Jean to visit her as a surprise. No stranger to making dreams come true, the care home is now busy preparing for Jean's special day out.
"The priceless friendship between Jean and Ann is something that must be treasured, and we want to make sure they get to see each other as much as possible. I'm so pleased we are making it possible for Jean to go and visit Ann on her birthday, I'm sure it will make her day and bring them both an incredible amount of joy. Friendships form the foundation of a care home. It is our role as Care Managers to foster relationships, nurture connections, and ensure that each individual's wants and needs are met” – Amanda Jelbert, Care Home Manager.
