Overjoyed residents and staff at Primrose House Care Home took part in the Great Primrose Bake off on Monday afternoon, embracing the opportunity to come together for an afternoon of baking chocolate buns and cornflake buns.
Resident, Valerie Wright, was delighted to be a part of the afternoon, stating: “It’s been wonderful fun. We’re all going to have chocolate all over our faces and it’s going to be brilliant.”
Norma Todd, a resident of Primrose House and a committed baker, agreed. “We’ve been planning this day since the beginning of the month. The atmosphere is truly lovely and it’s amazing to be able to enjoy a day of baking with friends.”
Andi Barker, the Home Manager, said he was proud to be able to offer the opportunity to residents. “It’s so important that our residents are able to maintain their life skills and enjoy the social and individual fun that baking brings,” he said. “We serve homemade baked goods in the lounge dining area of Primrose House each day, and it’s thanks to our wonderful residents that the tradition can continue.”
The baking took place in the afternoon between 14:00-15:30, with the mouth-watering aroma of freshly baked goods filling the dining area. The residents were encouraged to take responsibility for their own baking, promoting independence and ability to continue with these types of activities when living in the home.
At the end of the day, the wonderful baking creations were shared between care home staff, families of residents and residents themselves to enjoy. All who participated revelled in the opportunity the afternoon brought and were thrilled to be celebrating through baking.
