On the 6th of July, Primrose House Care Home was graced with a wonderful afternoon of art and memories, as Valerie and William Wright, Ivy Holtby, Norma Todd and Barrie Cutts created individual canvas handprints for their families to cherish.
This special activity was part of an overall strategy from the care home to promote stimulation, social inclusion and activities that are meaningful to the residents. In the warm summer’s afternoon, the participating residents, all dressed in their creative clothes, sat in the garden lounge to partake in activities that ultimately go on to create lasting memories for families and loved ones.
One of the participants, Ivy Holtby, shared her excitement for the event, saying: “I’m really enjoying this! It’s a great way to create memories.”
Meanwhile, Norma Todd, another resident taking part in the afternoon’s creative endeavour, remarked, “I haven’t painted since school, and I forgot how much fun it is!”
The canvas prints aren’t only the perfect gift for families to keep as a memento of their loved one, but they also act as a reminder of the time spent in the care home, and how the home’s staff has worked hard to ensure the residents continue to enjoy meaning activities whilst living in their care.
Andi Barker, Care Home Manager at Primrose House Care Home, said: “We really feel privileged to be able to host activities like this, that have such an amazing impact on the wellbeing of our residents. It’s a great opportunity for them to be creative and to create something with true meaning to them and their families.”
Valerie and William Wright, Ivy Holtby, Norma Todd, and Barrie Cutts have all successfully designed unique canvas handprints that go on to testify the meaningful activities that take place in the home. Also, the prints will now continue to be treasured as an individual expression of who they are and bring smiles to their families in the years to come.
