Heatherton House are knocking Wimbledon out of court!
Heatherton House Care Home is preparing for two weeks of fun and entertainment with the Wimbledon Championships being shown on the big screen.
Residents at the home are anticipating the start of the women’s singles where they plan to cheer on their favourite tennis players from the comfort of their own home. The home has provided all the necessary tennis accessories, from indoor tennis rackets to British flags to really get into the spirit of the tournament.
The screen is set up in the lounge where the residents are surrounded with their friends and family, and the smell of strawberries and cream fills the air. With a glass of fizzy in hand, everyone in the home is ready to get behind their favourite players and rivals.
Wednesday 9th July saw the start of the doubles matches which are sure to bring an added dose of excitement to the lounge. With draws on ladies, men’s, and mixed division, cheering on the court was in full swing by the end of the day!
The atmosphere at the care home will stay alive throughout the Championship, with plans for a ‘Build Your Own Wimbledon’ bake-off competition with star prizes, themed games, and activities to get everyone involved.
The celebration of the Championships doesn’t finish there - as the final draws closer, residents of Heatherton House will be treated to a “Grand Afternoon Tea”, complete with refreshments and live screening of the Tennis, with all the families invited to join in the festivities.
Speaking ahead of the activities, Amanda Jelbert, Care Home Manager said:
“My idea behind the activities has been to bring the atmosphere, entertainment, and fun of Wimbledon to the residents of Heatherton House. I’ve worked hard to make sure that this is a celebration of all thing tennis and that everyone at the care home is involved in the festivities.”
The buzz of anticipation at the home is palpable - with residents prepared for two wonderful weeks of all things Wimbledon, so much so that you could almost feel the clay under their feet.
