Residents of Broadlands Lodge Care Home were delighted as they got to meet some very special visitors. Broadlands Lodge welcomed a group of Guinea Pigs from Cavies and Cake.
The furry little animals were brought to the care home by their handlers, who were more than happy to let the residents give them a cuddle and feed them some tasty green treats.
The elderly people were delighted to see the little animals and couldn't stop stroking them and commenting on how soft and gentle the guinea pigs were, and some were even seen to be speaking in a soothing, gentle tone to the animals.
The visit was part of the care home's strategy to reduce stress and anxiety in dementia patients and promote self-esteem and interaction; with many of the residents showing an immediate and positive response to the animals' presence.
The residents were able to reminisce about their much-loved pets they had growing up.
The owners of the Guinea Pigs were equally pleased with the visit and said that it was a great opportunity for their fury friends to make some new buddies.
Cavies and Cakes explained that the Guinea Pigs had enjoyed the visit just as much as the residents, and that they had been very well behaved throughout the whole experience.
It was a truly magical day for everyone involved, and it's something that the residents of Broadlands Lodge Care Home won't forget in a hurry.
The visit was deemed a great success by all involved, and the care home's staff hope to make this kind of interaction with animals a regular occurrence in the future.
