Residents and staff at Coronation House Care Home in Thetford are beaming with pride as they celebrate the extraordinary career of Diane Hele, the daughter of one of their cherished residents. Diane, a dedicated midwife from Beyton, has marked an incredible 51 years of service, supporting families across west Suffolk.
On Monday, August 5, Diane was honoured with a glass trophy to commemorate her half-century milestone at the former West Suffolk Hospital. Surrounded by her maternity colleagues, chief executive Dr Ewen Cameron, and executive chief nurse Sue Wilkinson, Diane expressed her deep love for her career. She shared her hope of continuing to deliver babies and support parents until at least late next year, if not beyond.
“I am so proud of the West Suffolk, and I have always had a passion for the job,” Diane said. This heartfelt sentiment resonates deeply with the ethos of Coronation House Care Home, where dedication and enthusiasm are equally celebrated among staff and residents.
Diane's journey began in 1973 when she started working in the Theatre Sterile Supply Unit at the former West Suffolk Hospital. Her commitment to nursing saw her train as a state registered nurse between 1974 and 1977, integrating community nursing into her qualifications. After a year as a staff nurse in theatres, she qualified as a midwife in 1980 and continued to work full-time until 2011.
Diane delightfully recounted the joy of delivering babies for friends, relatives, and even some hospital staff. “I’ve delivered babies who have now gone on to deliver their babies - it must run into the thousands. They are all amazing, though I do have special memories of some babies and mothers,” she said.
A dedicated and inspirational midwife, Diane’s contributions have profoundly impacted both her colleagues and the many families she has supported. Her commitment to sharing her knowledge and skills with junior team members and providing outstanding care is a testament to her character and work ethic.
Colleagues expressed their admiration, acknowledging the invaluable role Diane has played in their professional lives. “It has been a real pleasure to work alongside Diane for so many years, and I would like to congratulate her on this huge achievement,” said chief nurse Sue Wilkinson.
The sense of community and compassion at Coronation House mirrors the dedication found in Diane’s work. Residents and staff alike draw inspiration from her story, exemplifying the shared values of care and commitment that make Coronation House a truly nurturing home.
As we celebrate Diane Hele’s remarkable career, we also recognise the undying dedication of the staff at Coronation House, continually striving to create the perfect environment for our loved ones. Here, every resident’s story is cherished, and milestones like Diane’s bring joy and pride to us all.
