Earlier this year, the Danforth in Bloom competition was launched across all homes, aiming to make the beautiful gardens stand out with the help of residents. At Rossendale House, this initiative has truly blossomed. In March, a garden club was founded, and it has since seen tremendous resident engagement. Every Tuesday, residents eagerly participate in the scheduled gardening time, though many enjoy the activity throughout the week, making it a real team and community effort.
Residents have been actively involved in deciding where to plant sunflowers and cutting down weeds, working up a sweat alongside the dedicated gardener, Steven. After their hard work, they treated themselves to a relaxing afternoon soaking up the sunshine. Gathered in the garden areas, they enjoyed refreshments and ice lollies while listening to upbeat 50’s summer music. This provided the perfect opportunity to reminisce about their younger days, sharing stories of jiving on the dance floor and summer nights as teenagers. It was fascinating to discover that many residents used to frequent the same venues, sparking conversations about past encounters before reuniting at Rossendale House.
Family members also joined in the garden fun and requested a quiz from the quiz champion, Shabanna. Quizzes are a beloved activity at Rossendale House, often lasting up to two hours because the residents are so engaged. This particular quiz was no exception, with residents discussing the fun they had in the sun for days afterward.
Danforth Care Homes are currently welcoming residents, If you or a loved one wish to find out more information or come along, explore the facilities, and meet the staff, you can do so by contacting the enquiry team.
