Barton Manor recently welcomed a new bear mascot in need of a name. Seizing the opportunity to make a difference, the community rallied together for a noble cause.
In partnership with the Batten Disease Family Association (BDFA), Barton Manor started a fundraising campaign, inviting community members to suggest names for the bear in exchange for a small donation. The BDFA, provides invaluable support to families affected by Batten disease, a rare genetic disorder impacting the brain and nervous system.
For Andrea the general manager, the cause hits close to home, as she lives adjacent to a family whose grandson battles with Batten disease. Knowing their daily struggles, Andrea understands the vital role played by organisations like the BDFA in providing essential care, support, and hope to affected families.
The response from the community was overwhelming, with donations pouring in and heartfelt messages of support echoing throughout Barton Manor. After much deliberation, the bear was proudly christened "Bart," symbolising the home's commitment to the cause and its ongoing dedication to raising awareness and support for the BDFA.
Debi, whose grandson is bravely fighting Batten disease, expressed her gratitude to Barton Manor, emphasising the profound impact of every donation and act of advocacy in supporting families like hers.
As Bart takes his place as the beloved mascot of Barton Manor, the home remains steadfast in its mission to continue fundraising and spreading awareness for Batten disease research, therapies, and treatments. Through collective effort and unwavering compassion, Barton Manor is determined to make a difference in the lives of those affected by this devastating disease.
