This week, the residents of Primrose House in Brough have been wrapping themselves in a whirlwind of creativity with their craft club. They embraced wool and collage to create delightful pompom ice creams, evoking sweet summer memories and brightening up the care home.
At Primrose House, we understand that some residents find it challenging to use their fingers as they once did. To make crafting accessible, they used an ingenious little device to wind the wool, simplifying the process significantly. With the gentle assistance of our dedicated carers, the residents cut, trimmed, and teased the wool, crafting the softest, fluffiest pompoms imaginable. They even tested their creative flair by trying out marbled effects, reminiscent of strawberry ice cream, complete with woolly flakes!
The activities didn’t stop there. They brought back nostalgic schoolday memories by debating the best method to make a pompom - the speedy pompom maker versus the traditional cardboard circle. In an enjoyable and friendly competition, the pompom maker emerged as a clear winner for creating robust and vibrant pompoms.
Alongside the pompom fun, residents crafted beautiful collage bookmarks. These mismatched hues were celebrated for their unique charm, adding a personalised touch to the new books recently donated by our wonderful Front of House, Beverley. The joy and satisfaction from these simple yet impactful activities were palpable, as residents admired their handiwork and shared stories from their past.
This week's craft club session has not only inspired creativity but also fostered a strong sense of community and joy among our residents. At Primrose House, they prioritise making daily life meaningful and engaging, ensuring every resident feels valued and cherished.
With the smiles and laughter seen throughout the craft sessions, it's clear that Primrose House is more than just a care home - it’s a place where memories are cherished, and new ones are beautifully crafted every day.
