St. David’s Day brought a delightful Welsh celebration to Heath Lodge, where residents revelled in a day filled with traditional Welsh cuisine and festive activities. The home was adorned with daffodils and St. David’s Day flags, creating a vibrant and cheerful atmosphere that was enjoyed by residents and staff alike.
The highlight of the day was a specially prepared Welsh-themed lunch crafted by our talented Head Chef. Residents savoured the flavours of Wales with mouthwatering dishes such as a hearty lamb casserole served with leek mash or the classic Glamorgan sausages. The aroma of these culinary delights filled the air, adding to the sense of anticipation and excitement.
In the afternoon, residents gathered for a delightful baking session, where they lovingly crafted Welsh cakes. The kitchen buzzed with activity as residents rolled out dough, carefully shaped the cakes, and watched them sizzle to golden perfection on the griddle. The sweet aroma of freshly baked Welsh cakes wafted through the home, bringing smiles to everyone’s faces.
As teatime approached, residents indulged in another Welsh treat: Welsh rarebit, a savoury delight made with melted cheese and served atop crusty bread. This culinary masterpiece was the perfect accompaniment to afternoon tea, enjoyed by residents as they shared stories and laughter with one another.
Throughout the day, the spirit of St. David’s Day filled Heath Lodge with warmth and joy, uniting residents in celebration of Welsh culture and tradition. It was a day to cherish, filled with delicious food, camaraderie, and the unmistakable sense of pride in honouring Wales’ patron saint.
